Peter Falke Wines on Groenvlei Farm on the Annandale Road on the lower slopes of the Helderberg offers the perfect destination for a fun wine time. Apart from their stunning wines, the views over the Helderberg, the comforts of the outdoor lounge, Peter Falke Wines serves stunning soups on their Winter Menu.
The Creamy Cauliflower, I think one of my favourite soups when the caulis are young, silky, creamy with buttery notes and nutty flavours. Finished with white truffle oil and herbs. Would do well with the Peter Falke PF Chardonnay 2017 with its lovely whiffs of fresh sliced white fleshed peaches and windfall Citrus. Beautifully supported on the palate by Werner Schrenk’s delicate application of oak. Long and gently waning aftertaste.
The menu also offers Pea & Eisbein – a great German original, a slow cooked and wholesome soup of locally-sourced braised and smoked Eisbein and petit pois, garnished with fresh peas, crispy bacon and herbs. Match this with a bottle of the Peter Falke PF Pinot Noir 2017 with its delicate cherries on the nose and then a whoosh of berry fruits, fraises de bois and tart raspberries. Cashmere clad tannins in the aftertaste.
And Chili con Carne, a South American traditional dish, lean beef mince slow cooked with warm spices, tomato, kidney beans and sweetcorn, and finished with fresh coriander gremolata. The Peter Falke PF Cabernet Sauvignon 2016, classical Cabernet aromas and flavours, good dark fruits, well supported by French oak. Nice full flavours to match the beef.
All three served with fresh baked Ciabatta and farm butter.
What a lovely thing to do on a Sunday.
