Archie McLean, Catharina’s Executive Chef
Named after Steenberg’s intrepid 17th century founder, Catharina Ustings Ras, Catharina’s with Executive Chef, Archie Maclean at the helm, is all about exciting palates with interesting combinations of taste, flavour and texture. Cooked simply and presented beautifully, Chef Archie’s menu is interwoven with fresh, locally sourced ingredients prepared in a contemporary style with unexpected twists.
Slow cooked pork belly
Prawn & smoked salmon ravioli and rich lamb arancini are some of the new flavourful temptations amongst the starters. Continuing to push culinary frontiers, venison features prominently with grilled impala loin, Archie’s African game of choice. Other hearty meat options include slow cooked pork belly, fillet steak and lamb rack. Grilled yellow fin tuna and pan fried sea bass stand out amongst the fish dishes.
Three seasonal Sorbets
Archie’s new dessert menu will satisfy your every desire. Think apple tatin; chocolate fondant; frozen lemon curd; Kahlua panna cotta; or caramalised rooibos brûlée with frozen melktert – you will be spoilt for choice.
Catharina’s offers diners an à la carte menu as well as a 5-course tasting menu to be enjoyed with fine wines from the extensive, yet carefully selected wine list. Both menus are available for lunch and dinner and guests at the same table will be able to order from either menu.
Lunch experience at Catharina’s
The chef’s special two or three course lunch menu available until the end of September is ideal winter value for locals to tuck into while spending a sunny afternoon al fresco under majestic oak trees in the tranquil Steenberg garden.
Catharina’s is the place to be on Sundays with a lavish Sunday Feast and live music from 12h00 till 15h00. This popular buffet-style feast offers a large selection of starters, mains and desserts complete with a chef on the carvery.
