Paarl Wine Challenge – Top 10 Winners 2014

The KWV Cathedral Cellar with its high vaulted ceiling was host to the 2014 Paarl Wine Challenge Gala Dinner held on 7 August 2014. The occasion was sponsored by Collotype Labels, printers of Wine Labels. Guests were treated to a plethora of wines and delectable food dishes created by Chef Matthew Gordon of Harvest Restaurant at Laborie Estate.

Sixty eight wines, vinified in the Paarl region, were classed according to variety and/or style. There was one tasting panel chaired by Dave Hughes [no introduction needed here] and seven experienced judges, winemaker Chris Roux, journalist Elona Hesseling, Paarl restaurateur and sommelier Marc Friederich, sommeliers Barry Scholfield and Tatiana Marcetteau, and Katinka van Niekerk author and wine and food consultant.

The view of the judging panel reflected high quality in the Cabernet Sauvignons, and in white varieties not usually associated with Paarl.
