Laborie’s Harvest Restaurant wins the Beyond Expectations category in this year’s Klink Awards, adding another gong to Laborie’s growing list of successes and achievements this year.

This is the second year in a row that Laborie’s Harvest Restaurant has won top prize in a Klink award, having won the public vote last year as best Bistro or Cafe on a Wine Farm.

The award recognises a Winelands restaurant that achieves excellence in the middle ground between casual and fine dining.

Good country cuisine is a good way to explain it, and the award coincides with Executive Chef Matthew Gordon’s launch of his Summer Menu.

Old favourites and signature items have been updated whilst new items add a touch of lightness and summer freshness to the menu.

Matthew also puts his wine-pairing prowess to good use as he suggests wines from Laborie and KWV to pair with each dish.

You can pair an award winning Laborie Cap Classique Blanc de Blanc with Apple-Wood Smoked Chicken Salad, roasted beetroot, shaved apple, mint and avocado in a sprout and lime dressing.

Or what about a Laborie Sauvignon Blanc with Asparagus Risotto, char-grilled green asparagus, smoked butter dressing and pine nuts?

While the slow cooked free range pork belly and the slow-roasted free-range duck are still on the menu the new items will surely tantalise the taste buds.

Smoked Salmon Trout with Creamed Spinach Lasagne, mustard foam and trout caviar will work brilliantly with Laborie MCC Rose.

For dessert you can experience the local Artisan Cheeseboard with Preserves and Biscuits paired with award winning KWV Tawny, or if you prefer something sweeter; Laborie Cap Classique and Berry Jelly, Strawberry Pavlova and Summer Berry Sabayon.

Matthew has promoted Sous Chef Shirene Patrick to Head Chef of Harvest. He comments, “She’s a stalwart of my kitchen and has developed her skills and talents over time. I am delighted that she will assume the role of head Chef and I will continue to work with her on a daily basis as Executive chef”.
