Imibala Restaurant & Deli Winter Menu – 01.07.2015
Nicole Dupper, Executive Chef, outside Imibala Restaurant & Deli
I visited the Imibala Restaurant in Somerset West last week to have a try out of Nicole Dupper’s new Winter Menu.
Nicole specialises in bistro style meals, a number of them old favourites of hers, but all of them real nostalgia food, comfort food of our hearts.
We have followed Nicole’s career with great interest. One of the areas where she excels is in baking and the produce on the deli tables looks so fresh and delicious.
Twice Baked Cheese Soufflé, chive cream
Aside from the vegetarian options, like her Twice Baked Cheese Soufflé, the Open Mushroom Lasagne with truffles Ricotta cheese with burnt sage butter, The Char Grilled Corn salad and the Mushroom Risotto, she offers her The Kitchen Deli Burger which she tops with mature cheddar cheese, BBQ sauce, chunky tomato relish, dill pickles and fresh rocket.
Also on the menu is a sinfully delicious Slow Roast Pork Belly with a ginger chili and caramel sauce served with cream baked potatoes.
The Kitchen’s Slow Roasted Karoo Lamb Shank
The Children’s Menu – carefully marked children under 10 yrs of age – offers just the sort of foods our kids love, Mini battered Fish & Chips and Linguini with tomato sauce and grated cheese.
Sadly I am over the age, but the Vanilla Ice Cream with Bar One Chocolate Sauce and mini marshmallows looked like my kind of dessert.
Naartjie Crepes with salted caramel sauce
The grownups dessert menu is just as exciting with Nicole’s Naartjie crepes with salted caramel sauce, and the Rhubarb Crumble high on my choice list. As always, the wine list is a joy. Broad based, local and some international wines, a good range of wines by the glass and the Terra Madre, Champagne style Apple Cider from Elgin.
Some of the new pieces at The Gallery
One of the things to do when you are there is to visit the Imibala Gallery next door where an exciting Multi Media Exhibition opens on July 4th. Well worth a stroll through before or after lunch. The gallery is very accessible and friendly and not at all intimidating.
The Imibala Trust Computer Centre to which 80 children a week have access
The Imibala Trust does such wonderful work with school children, clothing them and giving them access to all manner of educational projects. There is an impressive computer centre, art, pottery and drama classes all in order to give underprivileged children access to the world in which they will grow up.
