Durbanville Hills Collectors Reserve The Cape Mist Sauvignon Blanc 2021

The renowned Durbanville Hills Winery in a small valley leading west to the Atlantic Ocean, is a co-operation between Distell and 9 wine grape growers in the small Durbanville Wine Appellation. The winemaking is cutting edge stuff practiced by Founding Cellarmaster Martin Moore and Kobus Gerber, the Winery’s White Wine Specialist and Wilhelm Coetzee, the Red Wine Specialist. The climate is ideal for the growing of Sauvignon Blanc. For this wine small pockets of outstanding quality grapes are chosen for harvesting. During elevation in the cellar, the wine rested on its lees for 8 months giving greater texture and mouthfeel to the final product. The wine is then prepared for bottling.

Pour

From a Burgundy shaped bottle, closed with a screw cap.  The label is elegant ad connects with The Cape Mist, a regular feature in the Valley. The well-known Cape Artist, Theo Vorster, an expert in lino cut works, has portrayed his vision of the Cape Mist for the label. In the glass the wine is a pale straw colour with lime green flashes when held up to the light.  The aromas are all fruit driven.  White guava, granadilla, ripe nectarine, and ruby grapefruit skin oil. On entry these aromas are repeated on th palate. The wine has a perfect acidity line running through the generously fruited mid palate into the long and gently waning aftertaste. An impressive glass of fine Sauvignon Blanc.

Pair

The Durbanville Hills Collectors Reserve The Cape Mist Sauvignon Blanc 2021 is an excellent aperitif sipper, though is made for well prepared food. I have eaten the finest Deep Fried Calamari in the Winery’s Tangram Restaurant, though we can’t all get there. Alida Ryder’s Grilled Garlic Butter Prawns is a perfect partner.
