Table Mountain from the De Grendel Restaurant
As they say in the Michelin guide, De Grendel Restaurant is well worth the drive, not the detour. This is a destination to a place of great views, great wines and award winning food.
Sir de Villiers & Lady Graaff
De Grendel is owned by the Graaff Family and the estate was founded by Sir David Graaff, the first Baronet. Current owner, Sir De Villiers Graaff, 4th Baronet, is continuing the wine programme laid down by his father Sir David Graaff, third Baronet.
Charles Hopkins & friends in the De Grendel Vineyards
Charles Hopkins, the founding Cellarmaster and his cellar team are producing sublime wines which are winning award after award both locally and internationally. Perfectly matched by the Restaurant’s fine food.
Beautiful table settings
It was for a visit to lunch at the De Grendel Restaurant which took us to the Estate recently. It was a magical day and the view out to Table Mountain and Table Bay was slightly dimmed by cloud yet so beautiful.
Ian Bergh, De Grendel Restaurant’s Chef
Ian Bergh, the chef of the Restaurant has had an amazing apprenticeship and his food is special and different. Our waiter Ilse was attentive and kept the wine and water flowing while bringing the dishes to the Table. Adele, the Restaurant manager was attentive and in charge.
The Wine Tasting Stoep, perfect for prelunch tasting
Here are some of the dishes we enjoyed from Ian Bergh’s Luncheon menu.
Starter – Beetroot ravioli, citrus, ricotta, polenta, smoked parmesan, olive, poppy seed
Starter portion Wild mushroom, Arborio, truffle, asparagus, grilled artichoke
Palate Cleanser – Mango Sorbet
Karoo lamb shoulder, potato, emmental, pepper humus, vegetable stack, gremolata

After this embarrassment of riches, there was no place for dessert or cheese, we will have to go back.
