ORGANIC WINES BY SOPHIE GERMANIER, A DELICIOUS PAIR…

Sophie Germanier, Organic Winemaker

Organic Wines don’t taste any different from conventionally made wines in my opinion. BUT the difference is the kindness you do upon the vines and the soil by not using artificial fertilisers and chemicals for spray purposes. Leaving a better earth for the next generations.

To say a wine is easy drinking may seem to be damning it with faint praise, but who makes a wine that is difficult to drink. These wines are so accessible and pleasing, soft, and yes, easy to drink. We loved them.

Sophie Germanier Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot Shiraz 2020

Pour
From a Burgundy shaped bottle, closed with screw cap. The labels are simple and amusing – dandelion blown by the wind. In the glass, the wine is a deep blood plum at the heart which pales out to ruby at the edges. The aromas are much that one would expect them to be given the three varieties are used in the blend. Fruit. Prune Plums, blackcurrants, red peppers, and tomato leaf are all found and are repeated on the round harmonious wine.

Alastair Little’s Aubergine Parmigiana

Pair
The Sophie Germanier Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot Shiraz 2020 is so soft, it makes an excellent sipping wine. Improved by chilling. A good hard cheese, red meat, or a delicious piping hot Aubergine Parmigiana.

Sophie Germanier Sauvignon Blanc Semillon 2020

Without doubt my favourite white wine is a Sauvignon Blanc Semillon blend, which I learned to drink in Australia when working in the winelands of Margaret River, south of Perth. My friends on the wine trade here tell me it is a difficult sell. I just wish my friends would move slightly out of their comfort zones, drinking wine like this is a revelation.

Pour
From a Burgundy shaped bottle, closed with screw cap. The label is similar to the red wine, though in green. In the glass, the wine is a pale golden hay colour, with lime green flashes. The aromas are of stone fruits, white fleshed peaches, cape gooseberries and that wonderful elusive grapefruit which return on the palate. Soft and round on the creamy palate with passion fruit and mixed citrus. A gently waning aftertaste.

Alastair Little’s Ceviche

Pair
The Sophie Germanier Sauvignon Blanc Semillon 2020 is an excellent sipping wine. perfect for sundown. As a food wine it has so many possibilities. Cold smoked fish or patés made therefrom, sushi and sashimi, and Ceviche.
