Snow Mountain Chardonnay Pinot Noir 2017 is part of a range of artisanal wines made by James McKenzie of Nabygelegen in the Wellington Wine Appellation.
The blend is made up of 95% Chardonnay and 5% Pinot Noir. The grapes were hand harvested in the early hours at low temperatures with careful berry selection following arrival at the cellar. The Pinot Noir was crushed and allowed 2 hours skin contact. The grapes were then barrel fermented and allowed extended lees contact after fermentation to add complexity and concentration. The wine was then blended and prepared for bottling.
It looks like
Bottled under screw cap in a traditional Burgundy shaped bottle, so appropriate for these Noble Burgundian varieties. In the glass, a pale golden straw edged with pink and it has youthful green flashes.
It smells like
Sweet tropical limes, undertow of red berries and oak spice.
It tastes like
Full mouthfeel, rich in citrus – really delicious wine. Some red berries there and a touch of spice in the ending.
It’s good with
Excellent as a refreshing glass midmorning. Made for food, goes well with sushi, sashimi and ceviche. Good too with smoked chicken and fish. Just made for my Cheese Baker Baked Camembert with Citron preserve – CLICK HERE.
