Groenvlei Farm, with its gabled Cape Dutch buildings which date back to the 18th century, is situated on the ‘Golden Mile’ of the Helderberg, one of the prime wine areas of Stellenbosch. Waves of magenta bougainvillea tumble down the buildings, while delicate scented roses and wild lavender grow alongside the carefully cultivated vineyards.
This is the home of Peter Falke Wines. Franz-Peter Falke and his partner Daniele Görtz have made the most of the old, with its white walls and formulaic building style and partnered an elegant Cape Dutch homestead with a cutting edge boutique winery. German precision meet French flair. The insides of the buildings, are vibrant with colour. The contemporary wine tasting room and outdoor luxurious lounge make Peter Falke Wines as one of the elegant and serene sundowner retreat in the Winelands with an unsurpassed mountain backdrop.
Franz-Peter Falke, who has been doing business in South Africa since 1969, had always envisaged a place of his own in the heart of the Cape Winelands. You don’t get more ‘heart of the Winelands’ to fulfill your dream than the farm Groenvlei which he acquired in 1995.

The Terrior of the Estate
The French define Terroir as being the unique aspect of a land and its natural environment. The Helderberg offers this in the way the vine interacts with the soil, slope, topography, the micro climate, to produce grapes of unique character consistently year after year. So the emphasis at Peter Falke Wines is primarily to produce fine grapes from a well tended vineyard, by General Manager and Viticulturist, Werner Screnk, which will ultimately produce a stand out quality wine with unique characteristics.
Winemaking at Peter Falke Wines
The Peter Falke philosophy is to capture the essence of the Terroir, to hand select the best grapes in the vineyard. Once in the cellar, natural and minimalist processes are practiced by Peter Falke winemaking team comprised of Werner Schrenk and consultant winemaker Louis Nel. Louis is an experienced and respected wine maker and a member of the prestigious Cape Wine Makers Guild.
