I have long admired Helen and David Untiedt and their company Perfect Hideaways. The name says it all. They have a fabulous portfolio of homes which look they would be better placed in a serious interior and architecture publications. If you want a breakaway to the sea, the mountains, the Karoo, the KZN coast, Mozambique, dog friendly, virtually anywhere, Helen and David will have the perfect match for you in the perfect size.
We were thrilled to be invited to spend two nights at Pepper Tree Cottage on Penhill Farm at the very top end of the Nuy Valley. Pepper Tree Cottage is reputed to be the oldest building in the Nuy Valley. Penhill Manor House stands on the original road from Worcester to Robertson and is marked by a pair of tall palm trees which acted as a guide to travellers who used the farm as a staging post. Amusing too is that there is a ‘smouskamer’ in the old Manor House which traders used to show their wares.
Penhill offers a variety of accommodation, from the Manor House which sleeps 8, to Pepper Tree Cottage, our home for two days.
There is great comfort and luxury to be found here. Roaring fire place in the cold winter times. Really comfortable warm beds, large fluffy towels, plenty of hot water. The kitchen is well equipped and all you need to take along is food and drinks. Plenty of good wine just down the valley at the Nuy Winery and Conradie Family Vineyards where the Penhill Wines are made and sold.
