Peter Vadas and I worked together some 35 years ago when we were young and beautiful and now he and his wife Vivienne run this delightful restaurant overlooking the lagoon at Knysna.
Peter is a really superb chef and each year he and Vivienne travel out of the country to a new destination and attend a cookery school for a couple of week. Good news for regulars like us is that they bring the dishes home and we get to enjoy them – Peter style. For starters there is a selection of salads from the buffet – your plate is weighed as you go back to the table. Waldorf Salad, Coleslaw Vinaigrette, 3-bean salad, Mediterranean, Moroccan they’re all there. The duck liver parfait is worth a drive from Cape Town alone. Also a thoroughly decadent selection of desserts for the seriously sweet-toothed is offered, showing a selection of homemade ice creams and sorbets and a classical New York cheesecake. We drank a bottle of Land’s End Sauvignon Blanc – green and crisp and even, intense minerals and a dash of barrel fermented Sauvignon Blanc with a dollop of Semillon. Excellent wine list – Gold Award from The Diners Club Wine List of the Year Awards.
