Time came when Carol worked with Adré McWilliam Smith of great legend who owned Le Quartier Francais.
And then Carol and John went up the hill and opened La Petite ferme, now in its second incarnation having been burnt to the ground by a fire some time ago. I remember saying to Carol the next day “what a great chance to fix everything that you wanted to!’ Well fix they did and it still remains a favourite place to visit.

Now Carol and John have handed over the restaurant to their son Mark and his wife Josephine.
They have produced this, the second La Petite Ferme cook book.
And a stunner it is too. Every dish is superbly illustrated – photography by Ryno. Dishes divided into seasons.
Thank goodness Carol’s iconic dessert Plum Crazy is there as well.
You will want to give this book to your friends and family overseas – and you’ll want one for your kitchen book shelf.
After all as I write this, plums will be in season again soon!
