Glen Carlou, in the Paarl Wine Appellation, is beautifully situated on the lower slopes of the east facing side of the iconic Simonsberg. Ready to meet the dawn each day at first light, there is a broad sweeping view of the majestic mountains, looking over the Paarl Mountain with its three massive granite rocks. Careful management of the vineyards and great attention to detail in the cellar is part of the Glen Carlou we know today. The Glen Carlou Sauvignon Blanc 2018 really pays tribute to those who went before and the current team who make this sublime wine.

There are 31 vineyard blocks on the Estate covering a whole range of wine grapes, each slope and aspect planted and tended to bring forth the finest quality produce for the winery. Further plantings over the years, will take the total under vineyard to 60 hectares.

The grapes for The Glen Carlou Sauvignon Blanc 2018 are taken to the cellar and after destalking and gentle crushing the juice is run off into stainless steel tanks where the fermentation takes place in an oxygen free atmosphere. Once complete, the wine is left on its lees for three months to enhance flavour and mouthfeel.

Glen Carlou Sauvignon Blanc 2018 is registered as Wine of Origin Cape Town, a recently formed appellation which aims to use Cape Town as a focal point for its wines.

From a Burgundy shaped bottle under screw cap. The elegant Glen Carlou livery is all in green. In the glass, it is a gem bright pale straw in colour with  lime green flashes when held up to the light. As to its properties, who can say it better than Johnnie Calitz, Glen Carlou’s Winemaker?  “A vibrant styled Glen Carlou Sauvignon Blanc, expressing layered notes of passion fruit, guava and pear. On the palate the wine confirms an array of tropical fruit, ripe fig and gooseberry aromas underscored by a crisp minerality, leading to a gentle finish. There is a continued presence of gooseberry, capsicum and granadilla throughout, leaving the palate appealing for more.”
