Delaire Graff Cabernet Franc Rosé 2016
Delaire Graff Wine Estate has an eagles eyrie view of the Groot Drakenstein Valley and looks down the side of the majest Simonsig. Grapes from the estate, and others from contracted producers are available to Morné Vrey, the estate’s wine winemaker.
The Delaire Graff Cabernet Franc Rosé 2016 is a wine made from Cabernet Franc which is hand harvested off the estate’s own vineyards and those on the slopes of the Helderberg, that well known area for fine red wine grapes.
Cabernet Franc at veraison
Once in the cellar, the grapes are destemmed and allowed four hours of skin contact to reach the required colour. After pressing the juice is fermented and once dry the wine is left on the primary lees to build extra flavour. The wine is then prepared for bottling.
It looks like
Packed in a Burgundy shaped bottle under screw cap. In the glass it is a charming lotus flower pink.
It smells like
The most generous of berry fruits.
It tastes like
Almost crunchy fresh strawberries. Like it has had a drop of Cassis to make a Kir. Spun sugar on a creamy mid-palate with a gently waning long and dry aftertaste.
Tracy Foulkes’s Chickpea Salad
It’s good with
Delaire Graff has two fabulous restaurants, The Delaire Graff where Michael Deg reigns and the Indochine of which Virgil Kahn is the chef. Both will offer good partnering dishes to this wine. At home Tracy Foulkes offers a real summery Chickpea Salad using her NOMU products. Click here for her recipe.
