In the late 1970s and 80s Boschendal Restaurant in the Groot Drakenstein Valley near Franschhoek, became the talk of the town with its fabulous buffet lunch. This featured, amongst other delights, a number of Cape dishes which included Malva Pudding for which the restaurant became famous – enjoyed by the likes of Henry Kissinger, Countess Mountbatten of Burma and many of the restaurants guests. There are now several Boschendal Eateries offering a wide variety of choices.
Rhone Homestead – home to buffet lunches and picnics and a fabulous rose garden
Today this buffet lunch is replicated in the historical Rhone Homestead on Boschendal Farm. Many of the dishes of the Boschendal Restaurant heyday have found their way onto the Rhone tables with a number of other family-friendly dishes.

It should be on your bucket list to join a sharing feast at The Werf Restaurant prepared by award winning Executive Chef Christiaan Campbell and his talented team. The Long Sunday Lunch sets a relaxed atmosphere where family and friends come together to unwind, catch up, share a bountiful farm meal, sip on good Boschendal wine and listen to some local tunes. A bottomless bubbly option is also available.
Christiaan is well known as a forager and locavore and uses the produce from The Werf garden where curator Megan McCarthy grown organically a large variety of vegetables, herbs, fruit and saladings. Home grown pasture reared Black Angus beef and chickens specially grown for use on the Estate are an important part of the menu.
Do take a large shopping basket with you when you go to fill up with baked goodies, farm meats, deli products and the fine Boschendal Estate Wines.
