There are baking reality shows and there are baking reality shows and there is Koekedoor. Certainly, a HUGE favourite for me once a week when the two series have been broadcast. Hundreds of thousands of viewers each week watched the three wonderful and talented judges sitting in judgement over an enchanting group of contestants of all ages who produced the most superb baking work.
For me, the Great British Bake Off and its local version, sit in the second row. Mari-Louis Guy, Tiaan Langenegger and Elizabeth Cloete are such experts in their fields and certainly there was serious electricity between them.

Errieda du Toit, the highly talented heritage food writer, was the content creator for the two KykNET series and also for their predecessor Kokkedoor. She has put together a series of books celebrating these reality cooking shows. Koekedoor 2 is the perfect Christmas Baking Book, there is a lovely section on Christmas Bakes.

It was a lucky guest at a function which showed the first programme of the second series and spent a morning with these lovely people. Tiaan Langenegger, a trained chef brings a modern youthful approach. Mari-Louis Guy is so talented as a baker and creator of some pretty fantastic bakes. Elizabeth Cloete, in my opinion, should be proclaimed a National Living Treasure, the bearer of the food cultural heritage in this country.

While the series may be over, the book is a great reminder of the baking fun that took place and the joy it gave to us, its viewers.
