Bombolini has been Danie Truter’s pet bull for 9 years. He arrived when he was 5 days old and was initially hand-fed.
At harvest time Bombolini, who wanders freely in the Onderkloof vineyards, eats the grapes used for his own wines so they obviously have his stamp of approval.
The Bombolini wines are free spirited, like their namesake. Palate friendly, full bodied [like Bombolini himself] and unique, they offer a different taste experience with the delicately wooded Bombolini Chenin Blanc and a generously flavoured Cabernet Sauvignon Shiraz. Both wines are from the vintage of 2007 and are matured in Truter’s own French oak barrels imported from a small French family-owned cooperage.
Made from South Africa’s most popular grape, Bombolini Chenin Blanc offers rich classical Chenin fruit gently supported by flavours of the fine French oak barrels. While it makes a great glass on its own, Bombolini Chenin Blanc can be enjoyed with fish, poultry and soft cheeses
The Cabernet Sauvignon Shiraz blend has generous fruit aromas and flavours on the palate with a pleasant mouthfeel. Perfect with meat off the braai, from under the grill or out of the oven.
Bombolini wines are made in small volumes in Onderkloof’s boutique wine cellar on the slopes of the Schapenberg on the Western edges of the Stellenbosch Appellation below Sir Lowry’s Pass.
Truter, a winemaker with over 30 years of experience in the production of fine wines, takes infinite care and makes with love the wines with grapes grown on Bombolini’s grazing fields.
