In Boerekos met ‘n Twist, what Annelien Pienaar has done, is to take the dishes we ate as children and given them a fresh new look.
Described by the publisher as ‘it could be described as a 21st century Kook and Geniet for Busy people.’ I think not, don’t mess with the massive body of work by Mrs SJA de Villiers, which is a legend in this land.
That said, I loved this book. It brought back so many memories of the food of my childhood. I was glad to have them recalled by such an erudite piece of work with the most beautiful photography.
Starters, mains, baked goods, preserves and more Annelien takes you through the meal and beyond to tea time. Offering the advice which an experienced only can teach to her young – and indeed some not so young readers.
I particularly like the menu suggestions at the end. So often people are flummoxed about wat to serve, here are Annelien’s fabulous ideas and the book provides all the recipe.
This is a welcome addition to the genre – the fastest growing niche in South African Cook Books. Get a copy! And use it!
