Big celebrations at Asara Wine Estate and Luxury Hotel as they pick up another batch of awards to add to their already creaking medal and awards display case. The Michelangelo International Wine & Spirits Awards delivered 6 Gold Medals and 3 Silvers last Saturday.
The wines which received Gold Awards were the 2014 Asara The Vineyard Collection Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2015 Asara The Vineyard Collection Merlot, the 2015 The Asara Vineyard Collection Shiraz, the spectacular 2013 Asara The Speciality Collection Avalon (an Amarone style wine) and the 2017 Asara Reserve Merlot.
The 2015 Asara The Vineyard Collection Cape Fusion (Cape blend) is made up of roughly equal portions of Pinotage [a requisite to be able to call it a Cape Blend], Shiraz and Malbec. And in my opinion it is the Malbec component that truly makes this wine so different to the conventional Cape Blends. This wine has been a real winner for Asara.
The Asara The Vineyard Collection Cape Fusion 2015 took a gold at the Michelangelo International Wine and Spirits Awards. This year alone it has taken a Gold Medal at the 2018 Frankfurt International Wine Trophy and the 2018 AWC Vienna International Wine Challenge. The Cape Fusion also took a Gold Medal at the Vitis Vinifera Awards 2018, and a Double Platinum in the Top 100 of the National Wine Challenge. A justifiably well awarded wine.
