This is the start of a journey for the next 24 days in which I will offer an Advent Calendar of wines, one each day until Christmas.
Vineyards 14 to 18 years old from Stellenbosch, Paarl and Breedekloof which are from 14 to 80 km from the Atlantic Ocean.
Grapes were hand-harvested early in the morning, crushed and destemmed. Skin contact lasted six hours. Fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks under controlled temperatures. The wine was blended together before bottling.
From a simple tear shaped bottle with an elegant blue label closed with a crown cork. In the glass, A lovely cherry blossom pink. Whiffs of wild strawberry and raspberry and Muscat. Full rich semi sweet, fynbos honey palate ending crisp and refreshing.
Good as a mid-morning refresher. Excellent with lightly spiced fish or chicken curries, or a lentil bobotie. Would work well with a strawberry pavlova as a dessert.
