Zandvliet Chardonnay – great flavours

Saturday, May 1st, 2010
Flying well below the radar, but so deserving of more limelight are the wines of Zandvliet. Zandvliet Chardonnay 2009 is a real gem. Beautiful straw gold in colour with whiffs of white flowers like frangipani and honeysuckle, the toasted hazelnuts and vanilla give evidence of the new 300 litre French oak barrels in which 30% of this wine was fermented and matured.  Stirring up of the lees with a wooden rod or baton helps too add extra flavours and to build up the wonderful full palate and mouthfeel of this wine. And we haven’t even got to the taste yet!  And you will be enchanted. Rich flavours of ripe white fleshed peaches, delicious citrus
