Amarula – my most favourite of the “modern” liqueurs arrived at our front door recently with two “friends” a bottle of Nachtmusik and a bottle of traffic light green Oude Meester Peppermint liqueur.
Love them all separately and thought that as the kind people from Amarula had sent us some ducky little Soccer Ball glasses, we’d pour a drink known as the AmaShibobo. In early celebration of the soccer fun that is just around the corner.
Because the liqueurs have different densities you can pour them in equal parts in three different layers. Start with the heaviest, the Nachtmusik, slowly pour the Peppermint on top and top off – carefully – with the Amarula. And you land up with a three striped glass and when you take your sip, you get the yummy creamy fruity vanilla Amarula first, followed by the fresh zippy and sweet mint and then that final taste of the yummiest of chocolate liqueurs. Each of them poured over creamy vanilla ice cream make a great dessert too.
So we lift a glass to Bafana Bafana in a toast to good luck and good fortune in the upcoming FIFA 2010 World Cup.
Amarula, also known as the Spirit of Africa, is licensed as an official FIFA 2010 World Cup product ad sells for about R85 in liquor shops.
