Fantil Cabernet Sauvignon Cabernet Franc 2006

Morgenhof Fantail Cabernet Sauvignon Cabernet Franc 2006

At under R50 bucks a pop, this is a big chewy elegant rustic wine.  It’s a  Morgenhof label, but by no means a “second” label.  A wine able to stand on its own.

Deep ruby red in colour, fine elegant flavours, brushed with oak, the Cabernet Franc lends its classical forest floor after gentle rain smells, mushroomy and that delicious smell of just wet leaves.  Lovely berries, velvet glove tannins and a good long spicy finish.

Morgenhof is owned by Ann Cointreau, an elegant French lady from the eponymous liqueur family.  They also make Gosset Champagne.

Simonsberg Stellenbosch grapes.  53% Cabernet Sauvignon 47% Cabernet Franc and a splash of Malbec.  14.11% alcohol, 2.9 gm/l residual sugar.
