Surely one of the more beautiful books to appear this year. From the pen of Myrna Robins, I think this is her 7th book.
As classy as Lannice Snyman’s Tortoises and Tumbleweeds and Marlene van der Westhuizens Sumptuous.
Myrna is a brilliant writer with such feel for food – and especially food in the Cape vernacular..
Here Myrna takes us on a mystical magical tour of Franschhoek – self appointed food luvvie capital of South Africa.
Certainly some of my favourites are there – Reubens, La Petite Ferme, Le Quartier Francais, Bread and Wine and Genot.
One of the dangers of doing a book like this is peripatetic chefs. For example Mark Rodnay is no longer at Genot.
But Topsy Venter is still there – what a girl.
Creatively designed, stunning photography, it has bee reviewed as a new “coffee table” book on Franschhoek food.
Sorry you wont find this on my coffee table, it’ll be in the kitchen where I will be able to re-create the magic moments I have had in some of those restaurants.
